Hascup Berry Picking

Taste Freshly Picked Health: Hascup, the Pearl of the North

There is field after tranquil field of hascup bushes, where deep purple berries ripen in dense clusters, all surrounded in a natural setting. Bibai is proud to be the nation’s largest producer of these hascup berries. And you can enjoy picking your very own berries at one of the many orchards within the city limits during peak season, June and July.

Hascup berries are famous for their healthful qualities. They include vitamins, calcium, iron and more- just the ticket for “tired blood,” sensitivity to the cold, eyestrain. What’s more, they have been indicated as a help in the prevention and improvement of the complexion and skin blemishes. In Ainu lore, the hascup was prized as the “fruit of youth and long life.” This inestimable fruit is only cultivated in a limited part of Hokkaido, where it’s been called the “phantom fruit” and the “Pearl of the North”.
Hascup picking starts in late June and lasts about a month.
